Abstract

The paper represents the analytical review of characteristic features of organization of the English language teaching at higher educational institutions of Ukraine. Such research is aimed at determination of the place of disciplines, included in the cycles of general and professional training, related to learning of English in the context of training of bachelors of non-linguistic directions of study. With the aim of the research in view, there were examined the wide range of educational and professional programs or curricula, which are posted in free access, being realized by the most influential Ukrainian institution of higher education. The research was carried out through the analysis of such indicators as denomination of discipline, which provide mastering the foreign language communication skills of different branches of the English language teaching; the amount of ECTS allotted for each discipline as a component of educational and professional programs; general, special and professional competencies as well as program results declared by different educational and professional programs. These factors allowed to reveal similarities and differences in organization of the foreign language teaching, which in general are represented by the practical issues of application of language; the required levels of language proficiency at the beginning of learning at the next level needed, grade of orientation for the area of future professional activity or current occupation, main purpose of language learning determined by means of need analysis carried out, correlation of such kinds of studying activities as reading, listening, speaking and writing, age range of educational services users. On the basis of certain similarities and differences established, which characterize such branches of the English language learning as English for general purposes (EGP) and English for specific purposes (ESP), there was clarified the relation of disciplines, which provide mastering the foreign language communication skills, with disciplines of general and professional cycles. Without limiting the preceding there was analyzed the practicability of inclusion and priority of teaching of such disciplines and “The English language” and “English related to professional direction” using as an example the experience of department of automation and information systems of Kremenchuk national university of Mykhailo Ostrogradskyi in organization of English teaching process within the frames of training of bachelors of non-linguistic directions of study.
